The National Green Hydrogen Mission aims to make India a global hub for green hydrogen production by 2030.
The green hydrogen and its byproducts will be used as an alternative fuel for vessels and exported.
Kandla (DPA) is one of three ports designated as green hydrogen hubs by the Central government, along with Tuticorin and Paradip.
Why Green Hydrogen
Giga Scale Projects
DPA allocated 3,400 acres of land to build Green H2 production facilities:
Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL): 900 acres
Larsen & Toubro (L&T): 1,900 acres
AM Green Hydrogen Pvt Ltd: 450 acres
Welspun New Energy Ltd: 150 acres
The companies are expected to produce around 5.5 million tons of Green H2 and Green Ammonia per year by 2030–31.
The companies will source renewable energy for the green hydrogen projects. The port is also building a 300 MLD desalination plant to address the water needs of the green hydrogen units.
