Distinguished Stakeholders, Trade Partners and Colleagues,

It is with great pleasure that I introduce you to one of the Mega Ports of India. The Maritime Industry is lifeblood of Global trade and Commerce. Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) works towards creating a resilient supply chain infrastructure for the nation. Being a gateway to North Indian trade and leader in cargo handling within India for more than a decade, the port stands by the values of sustainable development; People, Planet, Profit, Purpose and Partnership. The Port caters Global and National demand with progressive initiatives which ensures that DPA maneuvers through the tides of ever-evolving Maritime Sector without compromising its commitment towards social and economic progress. DPA bagged the “Port Sustainability Award” at the Maritime and Logistics Award 2022.

DPA has been relentlessly taking strides in creating a conducive logistical ecosystem in spite of disruption caused by nature, pandemic and volatility in demand-supply of commodities etc. The new record of handling 137.56 million metric tonnes of cargo during the F.Y. 2022-23 has been made with a growth rate of 8.23%. Even COVID-19 could not slow down DPA in continuing the journey of being leader in cargo handling in India since, 16 years. The India Maritime Award also bestowed the port with Best Port of the Year (Non-Containerized) in 2023.

DPA promotes and welcomes collaborative approach by participating in Public- Private- Partnership (PPP). One of the many such initiative is concreted when DP World became Partner with DPA by signing a Concession Agreement for Mega Tuna-Tekra Terminal on 25.08.2023. The estimated 4243 Crores project will increase the port capacity by 2.19 Million TEUs. The port has been an achiever in Liquid as well as bulk cargo, the project will boost DPA’s aspirations in providing service for increasing container trade demand from the industry.

Strategic plan has been inked with the ongoing work of Masterplan 2047, in which the analysis of land utilization has been conducted. The expansion potential has been explored which aligns with National Master Plan of Gati Shakti promoting multi-modal connectivity. 10 projects worth Rs. 3159 Crores are under various stages of implementation. Another 7 projects worth Rs. 6685 Crores are also envisaged as additional projects which are to be implemented. Total 17 projects worth Rs. 9845 Crores would add a capacity close to 100 MMTPA.

The last mile connectivity initiatives are complemented with projects for improving intra- logistics via physical as well as digital infrastructure. The Rail connectivity projects for connecting berths, Vessel Traffic Management System, Ro-Ro/Ro-Pax Service, RFID and adoption of 5G technology are few such example among the portfolio of initiatives. Similar effort is being taken for Ease of Doing Business via the projects such as e- Procurement, e- Auction, ERP-EBS and Port Community System etc. The Cyber Crisis Management Plan and Information Security Policy are followed at the Port to ensure that a safe environment is created for the stakeholders.

In order to promote Port Based and Port Dependent Industrialization, Plug and Play Infrastructure via Smart Industrial Port City (SIPC) is developed which is also part of Masterplan 2047. In order to promote Alternate Fuel, setting-up of Green Hydrogen Hub is under progress. Apart from this, there is potential for investment in Furniture, Salt Based Chemicals, Wind Equipment and Real Estate etc.

By 2030, DPA aspires to be among top 5 ports in India with respect to Container throughput from the Port and also, increase the traffic by more than 200 MMT. This is being implemented with green initiatives such as Electrification of Port infrastructure, increase of green belt and renewable energy etc.

DPA also participates in the social development of region via projects in the area of Health, Skill and Upliftment, Infrastructure, Circularity and Pollution Control etc. One such iconic project under development is Swachh Gandhidham where the Waste Recycling Plant will be setup, promoting circular economy.

I request the business fraternity to consider and make use of the all-weather Port of DPA which operates at one of the lowest handling cost, to achieve the vision of increasing trade and contributing to the country’s goal of becoming a 5 Trillion Economy. In this regard, any ideas/ queries/ suggestions are welcome, and I assure you that the same will be whole heartedly addressed by DPA Management.

With Best Wishes,
Dr. N.Vinodkumar, IPoS
